| TOUR CODE: NTW7L HIGHLIGHTS :: MT FIELD NATIONAL PARK :: LAKE ST CLAIR :: STRAHAN :: CRADLE MOUNTAIN :: BAY OF FIRES :: BICHENO :: FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK :: WINEGLASS BAY :: PORT ARTHUR :: TASMAN PENINSULA ITINERARY DAY 1 :: DEVONPORT OR LAUNCESTON TO BICHENO Travelling northeast of Launceston, we stop at the sweetly fragranced, rolling purple hills of the Bridestowe Estate Lavender Farm (seasonal, Dec-Feb). Continuing through the changing landscape of heritage farms, forests and mining towns. We spend the afternoon at the breathtaking Bay of Fires, where you can take a stroll along the gleaming white sands or a swim in the clear turquoise water if the weather’s good. We stay overnight in the seaside township of Bicheno. After dinner, you can choose to take a local guided tour to see fairy penguins nesting (at own expense). (LD) DAY 2 :: BICHENO TO PORT ARTHUR Hike stunning Freycinet National Park for sweeping views of Wineglass Bay and beyond. You may choose to trek on to Wineglass Beach from the lookout or for those more adventurous; a climb to the top of Mount Amos. Travelling south to Port Arthur, we’ll stop to enjoy a rainforest walk along the way. Tonight, take the spine chilling Port Arthur Ghost Tour for a glimpse into Australia's convict past (own expense). We stay the night at Port Arthur. (BLD) DAY 3 :: PORT ARTHUR TO HOBART We’ll spend this morning exploring the Port Arthur Historic Site and take a boat cruise around the harbour. Next, we visit Remarkable Cave and a range of other spectacular coastal sites on the Tasman Peninsula on our way to Hobart. Hostel dorm accommodation included (BL) DAY 4 :: HOBART TO SURROUNDS Spend a day at leisure enjoying the sights of Hobart. Some recommended activities are: Derwent River Cruise on the historical square rigger ‘Lady Nelson’, a tour of the Cascade Brewery or the Cadbury Chocolate Factory (only week days), half day bike hire, a visit to ‘Antarctic Adventure’ or a trip up Mt Wellington. DAY 5 :: HOBART TO STRAHAN First we travel to Mount Field National Park, where we stretch our legs on the Russell Falls and Tall Trees walks. We continue on to Lake St Clair for a view of Australia¡'s deepest lake. On our way to Strahan we hike and explore the Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. We spend tonight in our own exclusive accommodation in the historic coastal township of Strahan where your guide will fill you in on the amazing history of pining, mining and convicts! (LD) DAY 6 :: STRAHAN TO CRADLE MOUNTAIN REGION This morning we enjoy the intriguing history of Strahan with options to suit everyone! Take a stroll along the foreshore or up the Water Tower Hill for a priceless lookout over Macquarie Harbour and Ocean Beach; walk through a rainforest to Hogarth Falls (if you are quiet and lucky you may even spot a platypus); if you are feeling more adventurous arrange with your guide to canoe in a nearby lake (at no extra cost). Later, we take a walk through the Henty Sand Dunes, where you can even take a quad bike tour (at own expense). In the afternoon we visit the 'Silver City' of Zeehan. In the late afternoon you'll have the opportunity for a bicycle ride (included) at our overnight lodge accommodation. (BLD) DAY 7 :: CRADLE MOUNTAIN TO DEVONPORT Today we discover the World Heritage Cradle Mountain National Park. Enjoy the pure air with a guided walk around Dove Lake with views of Cradle Mountain, or challenge yourself with a more strenuous hike (unguided). We spend this afternoon exploring more of the state's mid north before our arrival in Devonport. (BL) DAY 8 :: DEVONPORT TO LAUNCESTON It’s a short journey through farming country to Launceston where your adventure with us ends. BRING Sturdy walking shoes (ankle high), swimming gear, hat & sunscreen, water bottle, towel & toiletries, torch, warm clothing in winter (waterproof jacket & pants), insect repellent, camera & film, motion sickness tablets. INCLUDED Experienced guides, accommodation transfers, accommodation (incl. bed linen), meals as indicated, entry to Port Arthur Historic Site (including ‘Isle of Dead’ cruise), comlimentary canoe canoe and bike hire. NOTE All tours are accommodated and we offer HOSTEL (dorm or twin/dbl with shared facilities) or ensuite MOTEL/LODGE style (2-3 star ensuite). All twin/double rooms are subject to availability at time of booking. Motel/ Lodge style may be located on different premises to hostel accommodation. Evening meals are BBQ style dinners, prepared by the guide (with passenger participation) and eaten as a group. Breakfasts are continental and lunches are picnic style. If you have booked your flight to depart Tasmania on the last day of tour, the flight must depart after 7.30pm. Passengers selecting an optional Gordon River Cruise will be unable to participate in other morning activities on Day 2 including the Henty Sand Dunes. |
