This picturesque harbourside West Coast fishing village on the edge of Tasmania’s World Heritage wilderness has been rated as the ‘Best little town in the world’ by the prestigious Chicago Tribune. Strahan is the home base of the West Coast Wilderness Railway and Gordon River Cruises – venture out to explore then enjoy the hospitality of The Strahan Village, with its variety of accommodation and dining choices.

Hamers Hotel
Hamers is an old hotel, rebuilt in 1936, which offers a full bar with a variety of tap beers, Guinness stout on tap, a wide range of packaged products (beers, wines, RTDs, soft drinks).

There is also a small bottle shop which offers an excellent range of products with many Tasmanian wines available.

The bistro offers a wide choice of dishes including steaks, seafood, chicken pasta, and daily seasonal specials – all at reasonable prices. A comprehensive wine list is available to diners at affordable prices.

Fish Cafe on the Wharf
The Fish Café on the Wharf provides a wide range of quality seafood, including fish and chips, in a relaxed casual dining environment. The Fish Cafe is fully licensed and also offers a selection of Tasmanian Ice cream and cakes for you to enjoy.

Named “Best Little Town in the World” by the Chicago Tribune, Strahan Village is one of Australia’s most unique conference and incentive destinations specializing in custom-designing imaginative and exhilarating events, for up to 80 delegates.

Recreation

A Gordon River Cruise on the Lady Jane Franklin II and a trip on the West Coast Wilderness Railway, are both absolute musts. There are also lots more on offer in the Strahan area. You can see the wilderness by plane, helicopter, seaplane, or by foot. Thrill-seekers can take an exciting jet boat ride up the King River to the ghost town of Teepookana. And there are also fishing trips, white water rafting, sea kayaks, Ocean Beach 4WD, and all-terrain vehicle tours. The friendly staff at Strahan Visitors Centre can help you plan your activities.
